Infant Gets Sick, Here's My Routine.

Taking care of a sick infant can be pretty stressful especially when he or she is getting fussy when it comes to feeding. This is the major reason I am fully control of what should and what shouldn't be fed to my infant.

I am a former breastfeeding mom and I do believe in natural remedies more than just totally depends on doctor's prescription medicines. In addition to that, pregnancy had taught me to eat healthily. Eating healthily differs from one another to one another. For me, I can still enjoy fast food but in moderation. Somehow, I started to skip the soda especially Coca Cola. I option for Pepsi instead in cases of desperation for soda. Hehe.

When I talk about 'natural remedies' here, I do not mean it to be a traditional remedy like I have to boil some sort of roots or raw materials or something more complicated like that (that eventually added another burden for me). My natural remedy is pretty much easier and lots of fun!

My Routines When My Infant Gets Sick
(be it fever, cold or cough)

#1 Bring her to see the doctor.

Be it a private or general community clinic in my area, the first thing I will do is to bring my sick infant to the clinic. This is a must so that, I am free from any legal liability in the future. (HAHA, just being a conscious paralegal). The thing is, when my infant gets sick, the doctor is the most reliable person I can turn to. So, please make sure to bring your child to seek medical attention from the registered doctor.

These are the medicine prescribed by the doctor for a cough and fever.

#2 Have an easily prepared meal.

So, basically, I will cook easily prepared meals for her cause she tends to be fussy in feeding to reduce my stress while hoping that she will eat more so that she wouldn't be dying. I usually cooked her chicken soup and congee rice (white rice porridge). Sometimes, when I felt extremely stress (due to staying up all night), I just prepared her plain congee rice.

Yesterday, I accidentally 're-invented' some new recipe which is super easy and a lot tastier! HAHA.

The imitation of McDonald's rice porridge! No need to cook a bowl of separate white rice and chicken soup.

Looks like our local Bubur Lambuk. It tastes like homemade McDonald's rice porridge.

Recipes.

All I need is just...

  • A cup of white rice (raw). Wash it first. Then add lots of water till it remains some two inches from a full measurement of the cooking pot (I use a small pot). Put it on the stove and started to cook.
  • While the rice is being cooked, I...
  • Take a carrot and slice it into small pieces. Add them into the pot!
  • Take a potato and slice it into small pieces as well. Add them into the pot!
  • I add some ginger. Just nice thin slices of ginger.
  • I cut some meat into small pieces and add them too into the pot.
  • I add some salt to taste.
  • I also add a cube of chicken stock by Knorr.
  • Finally, I chopped some Chinese Celery to add some colours and make it a whole lot more appealing.
  • Let them all cooked together in the pot until the water dried and the rice has reached this sticky textures.
This is my new favourite meal.

#3 Vitamin C will come in handy.

Lack of Vitamin C is one of the minor reason for my infant to easily get sicks (this is only my personal mom-ing doctrine).

So, when she refuses to drink her formula milk, I find out that she is more interested to drink some flavoured drink and of course, not the kids flavoured milk. :(

When I felt so frustrated, sometimes, I just bring her to enjoy chocolate milkshakes instead.

This...is my life saver!

I got this at Aeon Jusco Mall, Ayer Keroh.
  • No preservatives
  • No colouring
  • No bla bla bla things that will add my burden. HAHA.
A bottle of this orange juice is quite pricy. So I will have only two to three bottles in hand.

The story behind this orange juice as my lifesaver is...

This one day, my infant refused most of the things I fed her. (She had a cough). I was extremely so stressed that I just bring her out and we ended up straying in Aeon Jusco Mall, Ayer Keroh. I saw this Minute Maid orange juice for KIDS. Amazingly, my infant totally in love with it and on the next day, she is getting better! No more coughing! She started to drink her formula milk as usual.

I was so happy and less worried if she gets sick again. Somehow...until today, I couldn't find the Minute Maid orange juice for KIDS anymore. Well, at least, she'll drink something for her energy; instead of being fussy and starving.

I did buy other more economical options too.

#4 Strawberries

Strawberries are a natural remedy for my sick infant too. They taste a lot sweeter naturally. So, I will get these too when my infant get sicks just to make her feels like eating.

The darker the colours, the sweeter there will be.
Too bad, we weren't growing Sunkist oranges and sweeter strawberries in here.
Australia is the closest market we can afford.

#5 Mineral water instead of filtered tap water.

When my child is having a cough, she tends to get fussy in eating. So, mineral water will help to ease the pain of swallowing and improving metabolism. I personally believe that mineral water is way better than filtered tap water when my infant gets sick in order to ease her sore-throat.

I bought her first Evian yesterday! HAHA. (It's on sale)

#6 Cake is her new best friend.

Omg, a slice of cake is more appealing to her when she gets sick!

My infant is more likely to have the Hanjuku Cheese Cake for life when she gets sick (not to mention, she did munch this Hanjuku Cheese Cake at 2 a.m last night.)

I also bought her a slice of Chocolate Brulee just in case.

#7 Maximise air circulation.

Since my bedroom is on the second floor, keeping the air from circulating is not a major issue.

Always always keep an eye for her when the windows are opened.

#8 Let her rest and play.

#9 Kobayashi Kool Fever for Children.

At night, I put these cooling pad at the back of her body, her chest, and her forehead. (Just in case I get too sleepy to monitor her).

#10 Suppository (with doctor's prescription).

My infant tends to have a high-temperature fever at midnight. So, this suppository will be the last resort to maintain her body temperature at night - BUT, with the doctor's prescription of course. My mom will help me through this cause I have a major issue with the human biological business. LOL.

...

Please recover soon, Layla!
